so idk if anyone even bothers to still visit this site, but just in case i asked the same thing over in normal mode forums

So in the past 2 days I have blue screened/randomly shut down 19 times :/….starting to get annoyed now, about over a month ago i had to go to geeksquad since my comp would not even start up, turns out both of 2g sticks of ram were corrupt, so I purchased a new 6g of ram and it worked fine. About 2-3 weeks ago I started to get the really bad blue screening errors again. At this point I have NFI if its bad ram again, or i am starting to suspect my HD or motherboard.

Honestly I am starting to suspect its the MOBO but wanted to see if you guys have any input
ilu to anyone who can help :>

once in a long while the blue screen will actually give some useful information. for what it's worth its almost always hardware but as painful as it is I'd start with a complete re-install of everything from the OS on up.

well it shows an error in the nt file system driver - id try running chkdsk - to do this go into properties of your main drive and tell it to check the disk and turn on fix disk errors and scan disk surface - it will then complain that it cant lock the disk but offer the choice of doing it on next startup, select that and then reboot. hopefully that will fix it, if it does not then either the disk is damaged (replace) or you need to do a complete re-install. hope that helps Smile

I ran a chkdsk check (jesus christ that took forever) It doesnt seem like it detected any bad files. I'm running a cc cleaner then a defrag, after that I'm going to run another mem test, if the problem persists idk Sad

Kosi, I am moderately knowledgeable about computer tech. If you're having two different sets of RAM go bad that quickly, it is quite possible that you have an unstable power supply. RAM chips are designed to operate in a predetermined voltage range, and if the power supply is fluctuating out of these safe ranges, it can damage your electronics, badly -- and not just your RAM chips.

That being said, I see four primary possibilities related to your power supply. I'd check the power supply in your house, as well as the power supply in your computer.

1) If it's the power supply in your house, buy a good surge protector that also regulates the incoming voltage. I believe newegg.com has a surge protector with a voltage regulator for under $50.

2) If it's the power supply INSIDE your computer, then you've got to replace it, pronto, before it fries more parts.

3) It could be that your motherboard is routing power to your RAM chips incorrectly, which could also result in the isolated damage to that one computer compontent.

4) It could also just be that you had really really bad luck with RAM chips.
